Midtown Maps

Here's the next bit in my series of Detroit maps, my present place of residence, Midtown! There are so many fine art-and food-related places, that I had to pare it down a bit AND make two maps. How about that? I even threw a bit of process in there for you--a little glimpse at my color studies. Try not to get too excited about it, ok? Control your bowels and whatnot.

In other news, I'm going to start transitioning more over to my Tumblr page, so you guys should go and take a look at that, or follow me, or whatever you want. Your choice. NO PRESSURE.

Here's the link:

Website

I recently launched my official, professional portfolio site! Also, I felt uncomfortable not including an image with this post, so here's a sketch I did during break.

Check it out! ml.miotke.com

Sketchbook Buildings

I rediscovered my personal sketchbook, and paid it some much-needed attention. I have buildings on the mind.

Chicken

For a project that was killed. Based off of this project: Rooster.

Yes, I did restrain myself from calling it something else. It took extra effort this time, too.

Trip

Oh right.

I'm taking a little trip.

I'm giving Detroit a little break from me hanging around all the time, and taking off to bother New York for a few days. I took all my knowledge of perspective and scribbled this out in the middle of my packing mania (which is actually not for my trip, but for my move the day after I get back. Why pack/unpack one bag, when you can pack/unpack so many more?).

Champion. Adventure ahoy.

Faces

Things have been pretty nutty here mentoring (corrupting?) high schoolers at the Pre-College program here at CCS, so I haven't been able to devote my time to updating my blog (or I guess I should say blogs) regularly. Clearly, my life hasn't been as fulfilling because of it.

One of the great things about the Pre-College program, in a selfish kind of way, was it got me sketching more. Something about being around a bunch of people who are also super excited about art.  Who knew (ME. I DID. I GO TO ART SCHOOL).

So that's where those two sexy men from above are from. Sketchbook farts. Because I knew you needed an explanation.

Pancakes

I know there's a market for drawing actual porn,
but what about food porn? Eh?

Since I haven't had a kitchen for over a year now, I find myself drawing the foods I want to eat. Is this sad? Maybe a little, but it's usually better than trying to recreate the food in my microwave. I'm a boss at sassing up oatmeal, eggs just sounded/looked worse than they actually were, and then "grilled" cheese was just a bad idea from the start.

I may or may not be a pro at exploding soup.

Contain your jealousy and awe.

This entry may seem a little repetitive, because I posted this piece not too long ago on my Tumblr page. If you looked at it. Which you might have. I don't know. I'm not keeping tabs on you. I pretend to have a life beyond the internet.

I'm still figuring out what the difference will be between this and my Tumblr, if any, if both continue to exist. Right now the only difference is that I'm more inclined to ramble on here than Tumblr.

The lesson of all this is that I need to get my actual site all fixed up and launched.

And get an actual kitchen.

Meat and Skin

For some reason, the colors are odd on my screen unless you click on the image. I don't know about you guys.
Anyway, let's see what happens with these.

Sketch and Society 6

hey bby
I started getting that feeling I should update my blog. Why? I don't know and I don't have to explain myself! I'm an adult!

The bundle of line above started as a study of a piece of bread (in the middle of my ongoing love affair with ink) but I plan on pushing it beyond it's current state.

In other news, I have a Society6 page going! Click this: My Society6 Shop ! I have 4 images up (for now! more to come!), but you can buy it on a variety of products: t-shirts, laptop cases, iPhone cases,  and just oh so much more!

CHECK IT OUT.

Because I said so.

Please and thank you.

Astronaut

Don't let the helmet fool you.
Astronauts also appreciate silence.
Hey. It's summer. This is some of what I have so far. This isn't what I intended on doing tonight, or even what I was originally working on, but this is what happened. A little one-night stand. Whoops.

Here!

I'm still here! Clearly not updating for almost two weeks (gasp) means you should be concerned. Things have been getting busier and busier, and I'm in a flurry to finish a few things before spring break (more so because that's when they're due, rather than me having plans to accomodate---sorry to disappoint anyone who thought I was the glamorous jetsetting type).

In addition to homework, there have been some other cool things going on, for instance, I had a piece accepted into the Society of Illustrators Student Scholarship Competition Show! Myself and three other super awesome illustration students at CCS were accepted. Check it all out here and here!

Anyways, here's a little personal piece. I should have some other work ready to post soon.

Look Familiar?

I decided to revisit this.

Don't get too jealous about how I spend my Friday nights. I did this Thursday.

Portrait

One of my classes this semester is an illustration head and portrait class. The in-class work is painting and drawing from a model, with more editorial-ish portrait assignments outside of class. I haven't had a figure drawing/painting class in TOO long. It's one of my favorite parts of illustration, so imagine how happy I am being in this class. I'm pretty much shitting rainbows (if girls pooped).

So here's some recent in-class business.

Randa in ink
Janet joins the Blue Man Group
 (first in-class oil painting)

Randa all oiled up.

I'm trying to push myself with media that I really like (ink) and media that I'm not so familiar with (oil paints). I've had a fear of oil paints since winter semester last year, so it's nice learning that it's not the blend-y demon of the painting world.

Holy Batman, Batman!

Hey, cutie.

I have two weeks at home between working/living at school in the summer, and moving back to school for work/learning. I'm over halfway through, and let me tell you, I've been extremely busy and important.

 JUST LIKE BATMAN.

He just sits around and eats cereal while sketching and watching "Mad Men", too, right?

I never watched the show or read the comics much.

Check out at that sexy mug of his.  I'd put a handle on that and drink out of it.

The Birds! THE BIRDS!

Ink and digital

I can't explain it, but I keep on drawing birds. I guess it's only appropriate that I'm going to watch "The Birds" later.
